Woodville Elementary School hosts Birds of Prey presentation

On May 15, Woodville Elementary School hosted a Birds of Prey presentation for all students and families.

Back in November 2024, the school came in sixth place in all of Ontario in the Earth Rangers recycling fundraiser, Battery Blitz School Mission Contest – see the Board’s news story for more information. As a result of the contest, the school received a $500 prize and decided to use the winnings for the presentation.

The afternoon presentation was provided by the Canadian Raptor Conservancy and educated attendees on different birds, including the peregrine falzon, great horned owl, turkey vulture, and golden eagle. Students also had the opportunity to ask questions about the species.

“I was beyond proud of the entire community for coming together and collecting as many batteries as they did for our small town school,” said WES principal, Sharon Nielsen. “Being able to share the prize money with the majority of the student body and any community members who were able to attend was perfect. The presenters were excellent and provided a great deal of information presented so that all audience members were engaged and could understand. I highly recommend this presentation to any school. The smiles and excitement that came from watching and learning about each of the birds confirmed that the decision to spend the prize money on this presentation was a great choice.”
