Happy New Year! I hope that everyone enjoyed the holiday break with friends and family. Let’s hope that the deep freeze days will leave us and we will be able to enjoy the winter weather with our ski/snowshoe program and our new winter activities. A huge thank you to Mr. Padfield and Mr. Heffernan for organizing the ski program and to Mrs. Craig who has been instrumental in setting up the winter activity program for our grades 1-8. We also want to thank all of the volunteers who are helping us out with both of these programs. The opportunities would not be possible without our volunteers!
Our winter activities will be held this Friday January 19th and the following Friday January 26th. For some children the activities may be brand new experiences, while for others they will be practicing a previously acquired or attempted skill. Either way, we hope that students will have two fun filled active days with their classmates. A reminder that the activities will all fall within the regular school day so students who ride buses will be back in time to ride their regular bus at the end of the day. Please remember that if you are bringing skates on the school bus, they must be enclosed in a bag. For those students who have their own downhill ski/boarding equipment, it can be brought to the school and left in the front entrance way.
A big thank you to Maame Paquet who has arranged for the Science North team to come and spend some time at our school. They will be doing active presentations for some of the classes and will also be hosting a Family Night on February 7th at 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. The Science North Family Science Night is a two-hour evening program of hands-on science activities held in our school. Children and their parents/guardians work together to conduct simple, inquiry-based, age-appropriate science activities. The goal is to create an interest in science among elementary school children and their families in an exciting and interesting way. There will be science stations set up around the gym, with all necessary materials and instructions. Please come and join us for a fun evening of experiments and investigations!
